The situation
The Greensboro-High Point Regional Economic Development Authority needed a full site redesign. The existing site was built on Divi and had grown sluggish and difficult to maintain. The site needed to showcase the region's key industries, business resources, workforce data, and available properties to attract corporate relocation and investment. RLF Communications handled the design. I handled everything else.
What I did
Migrated the entire site from Divi Builder to Kadence Theme Pro with a custom child theme and a custom ForceField plugin. Built three custom post types with their own templates. Created an interactive map selector, a mobile scroll-snap stats slider with zero JavaScript, a newsroom grid with client-side category filtering, and a fullscreen accordion navigation system with custom Walker classes.
The homepage runs a looping hero video background. Getting that to score 100 on Lighthouse required solving a chain of conflicts between Kadence's video autoplay handling, WP Rocket's JS delay, and Chrome's lack of support for video preloading. Every one of those was a real problem with no Stack Overflow answer.
All custom CSS lives in one stylesheet. All custom functionality lives in one plugin. Every ACF field has a clear label. The client's team can update content without calling me.
Results
Lighthouse 95 Performance, 99 Accessibility on desktop. 90+ on mobile, with a hero video running. Zero content lost in the migration. Clean SEO foundation with proper sitemaps, robots.txt, structured data, and category management. Fully accessible markup passing accessiBe audits. A maintainable codebase that any competent developer could pick up and work on.
Design by RLF Communications. Development and performance by Forcefield.
